2022 ART GRANT RECIPIENTS ANNOUNCED!

Big thanks to all of the artists who took the time to apply for a Mosaic Art Grant this year.

The flood of applications that came in between the original deadline and the extended deadline was quite impressive. We ended up with 15 applications and 11k in requests!

After careful review, assisted by our fabulous art grant selection team, and with the cooperation of several artists who worked with us in adjusting plans to reduce their budgets, we're delighted to announce 10 art grant projects for Mosaic 2022!

~MOSAIC 2022 ART GRANTS~

What When Where Guide Reopens

Do you have art to share, fun things to experience, talks to unveil, music to create, gatherings to host? We want it all to be part of our 2021 burn so please let us know so we can help spread the word through our WWW (What When Where) Guide. We're jumping back into the action and reopening our guide for your submissions.

We initially rolled it out toward the end of July but we've now retooled it for our digital burn. You can find the updated version by visiting: form.jotform.com/212437412171143

The WWW guide will be a living documents and will be updated regularly throughout the gathering this year. Unlike years past, submissions to the guide do not close, and will remain open until the end of the burn weekend. As we re-share the growing guide later this week, be sure to check back often as you never know what new plans the community may add to your upcoming burn!

Mosaic Experiment No Longer In-Person For 2021

This afternoon, we’d like to address the public health crisis we’ve watched return to our communities over the last few weeks. The rapidly spreading delta variant of COVID-19 proved to be the one guest we didn’t invite, yet here it is knocking at our door demanding our attention. After seeking the counsel of medical professionals, considering new data regarding transmission among vaccinated groups, and weighing every option we could consider, we’re writing to sincerely apologize and acknowledge that the lights must go off once again.

We are deeply saddened to share that we have cancelled our in-person Mosaic Experiment for 2021. Please understand, this was unquestionably the hardest decision we’ve ever made.

We know this isn’t the news anyone wants to read and we’ve struggled with it, but the growing public health risk to our participants, staff and neighbors wasn’t something we could weather. Furthermore, there is a financial side to this decision which we have to acknowledge. Our insurance would have been five times the normal cost and we are reaching a point in our planning where our financial commitments would become locked in place for the event. Were we forced to shut down in mid-September, we wouldn’t be able to afford to burn in 2022, and this would be financially devastating for us in the long term.

We, as a community, have been particularly diligent in embracing Civic Responsibility this year. In that spirit, we simply could not justify taking a risk regarding public safety or our burn’s long term survival as the virus spreads once again. As we’ve watched other events in Ohio cancel or postpone to the fall, we also looked at pushing our dates back into October, but due to scheduling conflicts, this unfortunately wasn’t an option.

We will be issuing further updates over the next few days, including addressing all your ticketing questions. Please understand we’re refocusing our efforts as quickly as we can now. That said, we are excited to return to the digital burn playground we built in 2020 and shift our creative gears toward new ways we can gather virtually, September 16th-19th, 2021. We will still burn together, just in a slightly different way once again. We thank you for staying at our side, being so supportive and showing us that there is hope ahead, even if the lights go on and off sometimes. We will build the world we want together, again and again, in the years ahead.

“Letting Go" Wins Effigy Award for 2021

Who won our effigy award this year? Our art committee has been working hard, narrowing it down and we can now name our winner. That creative burner named Corvus will build our 2021 effigy titled “Letting Go".

Below, Mosaic Experiment's own Everyman sits down with Corvus to discuss his history with burning, his plans for 2021 and his project. It's pretty spectacular.

Also, they tip a hat to our discord experiment (you know, the 2020 virtual burn we never turned off) which you can find via discord.gg/ZfuEGHQ and please say hello to our house bot "Moe Zaic" while you are there.

What about awarding our temple design you may ask? We can't let all our big announcements out at once, right? Check back next week for a new interview featuring that design winner!

Gate’s New Dead Name Policy And Much More

Hey there everyone! Squeezie and EnorMike here with some information about your beloved Gate. It might be a lot to take in, but I promise, it's well worth it.

Gate has a new Dead Name procedure this year that we would like to make known. The last thing we want is for you amazing peeps to be turned away and miss out on all the amazing fun! To help Gate out, if you bought your ticket with a name that doesn't match your legal government ID, please reach out to us at gate@mosaicexperiment.com. You are STILL required to bring a legal ID with you to Gate, AS WELL AS a printed (or screen shot) of your ticket confirmation you received via e-mail.

New training shall also take place at Gate this year! We respect all our burner peeps and want you to all feel the love. We will be reminding our Gate volunteers that not everyone goes by the names on their ID presented at Gate and to proceed accordingly. We hope to help start your burn in a wonderful way, but still no hugs. Go to Greeters for that stuff.

We are looking for some excellent volunteers for our late night shifts! We need people who can check IDs, keep records, and respect dead names. If you like to sit around and look at stars, talk while listening to music, or possibly be bribed until you actually have to do something, this shift is for you! Come join us!

Important information about Gate that everyone should know! We are NOT, I repeat, NOT accepting vaccination cards at Gate. You have up to September 12th to prove your vaccination status. If you have not proven your status come time of the event, we WILL send you away.

Also, don't forget your legal government identification! Seriously, don't.

Okay, that was a lot… We're looking forward to seeing all your faces at Gate this year! Don't forget, NO HUGS AND SLOW DOWN!

What When Where Submissions Begin

We have a REAL LIVE BURN coming your way and it will be loaded with experiences to enjoy September 16-19th!

We’re throwing open the gates to welcome your WWW (What When Where) event submissions through this form. We’ve kept it simple, but we do ask that you complete the form for EACH individual event you are hosting.

Can’t you just feel that excitement building? Does it not have you dreaming about the things you’ll soon explore? The friends you’ve been missing who will explore it at your side? It’s time to gather your plans and share them with your community!

Our WWW guide will launch early next week and it will be a living document, growing as you add events here. We'll add them roughly once every 48 hours until Sunday, September 12th when we’ll put a pin in it and call it done.

Things are about to get VERY exciting!
