Finally... The 2022 Video Collage Has Been Completed.

Not long after we all returned to Defaultia following our event in 2022, we asked you in the community to submit some of your photos and videos from OFF AND ON AGAIN to be used in a video collage.

It's been quite awhile but you know how rough decomp can be, especially with winter soon following. We're happy to finally be able to present to you a collage of our first in-person event in 3 years, told from your perspectives.

We can't wait for all that Mosaic 2023 will bring.

What happens when I make a consent report?

All reports move through the process outlined in the flowchart below.

Each situation is unique, and therefore the “next steps” section of the process is determined on a case-by-case basis.  Next steps may include simply listening to both sides and documenting, mediation, requesting extra efforts (such as taking a consent class), providing resources, working with the theme camp where the incident occurred, and/or advising the Event Leads in cases where ejection/banning is recommended.

The goal of this process is to create an opportunity for the community to respond and hold each other accountable when there are breakdowns in consent. Our intention is to avoid public shaming or punishment - instead, interventions will be aimed towards education and improved understanding among all involved. We are not professional mediators. We are burners helping burners be radically excellent to one another.

For a more information on the response process or to file an online report, check out the Consent Team contact page of our website.

What is the Consent Team?

The Consent Team is made up of two main parts: the Education Auxiliary and the Response Team.

The Education Auxiliary is a new branch of the consent team that will work year round to create a culture of consent at Mosaic Experiment.  On-site they work with greeters to enhance consent education as participants arrive, organize and run the consent workshop(s), and distribute consent literature and swag.  Off-site they use social media to engage the community in consent conversations and communicate important information regarding the consent team.

The Response Team collects information about consent incidents, maintains confidential records of all reports, and responds appropriately to each reported incident. The Response Team takes reports from anyone, at any time through the Mosaic website. You can make a report online here

During the event there is always a member of the Response Team "on call" and team members will also be available for casual conversations about consent. If you are in need of help from the Response Team you can ask a ranger or anyone with a radio to contact the “on call” team member for you.  You may also submit a written report to the consent report drop box located at the first aid station, which will be checked twice daily.

Need-Based Ticket Program UPDATE!

In an attempt to meet as many requests as possible without leaving anyone scrambling at the last minute to get their ticket, the NBT program will STOP accepting requests after this Friday, August 26th, at 11:59pm. All requesters will be notified if their request was able to be met by Wednesday, September 14th. Any remaining unmet requests will be issued a ticket code and have an opportunity to purchase a full price ticket before ticket sales end on Wednesday September 21st..

To make a request, please fill out the Need Based Ticket Requests & Donations Form.

Requesters:  KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR EMAIL!

You should have recently received a program update letting you know your placement in line.  You will receive regular updates over the next three weeks, and you will be notified via email if funding becomes available for your request.

If you can't find the email, search "Mosaic Experiment NBT" and look in your spam.  If you still can't find it, email NBT@mosaicexperiment.com.

If your request cannot be met, you will be notified by Wednesday, September 14th and have an opportunity to purchase a full price ticket before ticket sales end on Wednesday, September 21st. DO NOT purchase a ticket without this code, even if it looks like tickets are going to sell out.  Your ticket will be accounted for with this code

.

If you purchase a regular ticket before the program closes, it will be assumed you no longer need the requested funding to secure a ticket and your request will be removed from the queue.

If you no longer need funding or require a lesser amount than initially requested, please respond to the update email you received or email us at NBT@mosaicexperiment.com so we can update or list accordingly.

Donors:  We need your help!

If you have the means and would like to make a donation to the program, donations can be sent to NBT@mosaicexperiment.com on PayPal.  Current requests range from $40 to the full price of a ticket, but any amount can be utilized!

If you would like to donate an entire ticket or would like to provide more information regarding your intended donation, please fill out the Need Based Ticket Requests & Donations Form and keep an eye on your email! A program facilitator will reach out shortly with further details.

For more information check out the Need-Based Ticket Program page on our website.

Mobility Motor Company

Hey y'all! It's Ester, one of the LNT leads at Mosaic Experiment. We're working on putting together a mobility shuttle for the first time and I, like a dumb ass, volunteered to coordinate it. Very Kateri has agreed to co-lead this effort with me.

We're still at the very beginning and we'll be putting together protocols, press releases, contingency plans, schedules, and lists of all the things as they are developed. We want to build something that will last, so we welcome your engagement, experience and enthusiasm.

If you're willing to join forces with us on the project, let me know. I have a bunch of questions, and I assume some of you do too. Let's start the conversations in the comments!

If you want to volunteer to be a driver, signups and more details should be available in the next week or so.

Out of the Mud - Episode Seven: Be Here Now

In this special edition of Out of the Mud, everyman and Corvus demonstrate the principle of Immediacy by recording the episode at the MOrg Summer Retreat.

We hear from the better half of the LLC, Dirtgoddess, on our need for both a Scribe to help our leads keep track of all the important decisions they make during the year, and the opening of the position of Ticketing Lead, one of the most important jobs within the MOrg to make sure you can all attend.

We also get a visit from our TACO (Transportation Authority & Car Oversight) AKA Parking Leads, Showman & Salil, who are looking for tributes, er... volunteers to step up and fill their seats in the golf carts as they detail their plans to step down as TACO Supreme after our event this year.

As we get nearer to the event, it appears the Out of the Mud Studio is quickly reaching some kind of critical mass and is threatening to collapse around our hosts.

Despite this peril, they push on and remind you in the community that for our event to be successful, we need you to volunteer!

ONE BURNER, ONE SHIFT!

A Conversation on Consent

Let's talk about Consent! Part of being radically inclusive is creating a culture of consent at Mosaic.

What does that mean? In short it means, ask first. Keep in mind that other people are full human beings with their own boundaries, histories, and desires when you want to connect with them, and ask them if the interaction you have in mind sounds good to them.

We can make sure we are doing it well by using the Four C's:

We CARE. We care about each other's well being and about our own and recognize that every human being is the authority on what works best to make themselves safe and happy.

We COMMUNICATE. We ask directly and clearly for what we want. We invite collaboration and input from others to understand their desires and limits. We keep the communication going throughout the interaction and look for nonverbal communication also.

We show CAUTION. We wait to make sure a hug or a gift or our presence is welcome before we proceed and pay attention to context. We stay flexible and aware of changes in our interactions and check in if we sense that something might have changed.

We practice CONSENT. We ask if we can give someone a hug, take a picture, or slap their butt. We let people know about what exactly is in the cookie we are sharing. We look for an enthusiastic yes and respect no as the final answer. We look out for ways that someone's yes might be compromised by being altered or by social pressure and power dynamics.

These things are nuanced and take work, but the payout is massive. When you are confident that everyone is on the same page, you can relax and enjoy the interaction a lot more.

A wonderful place to learn more and practice this kind of communication is at the Consent 101 Workshop that the Consent Team is hosting at Mosaic on Friday Sep 30 at 2:00 pm. Look for the location and more details coming soon!

In the meantime, we can start the conversation in the digital world. Do you have any consent memes or art you love that we can share? What does consent mean to you? How has consent culture impacted your life?

Share away and help build a culture of consent at Mosaic Experiment.
