Art Grant Fundraiser on August 10th

Get together for an incredible night of participant-led fun, community, and creativity as we raise funds to support art installations at the region's newest Burning Man event: The Mosaic Experiment.

  • Where: The KOI Pound - 2008 Freeman Ave, Cincinnati, Ohio 45214
  • When: Saturday, August 10th from 5:00pm to noon Sunday
  • Cost: $10 cover grants entry and 4 art tickets.
  • Extra art tickets will be sold at $2 a piece.
  • All ages event!
  • No dogs

The Event:

This year's art installation submissions will be on display at the venue, and the artist will be available to explain and present their ideas. As a paid participant, you can directly decide which art installations will receive your donations!

Art Tickets:

Each paid participant receives 4 art tickets. Each ticket represents $2. Give your art tickets to those art installations you'd most like to see at Mosaic this year. After the event, each artist will receive the funds donated to their project, which will then be used for making their designs come to life. Additional art tickets can be purchased for $2 a piece at Gate.

Submitting Your Art:

Shoot an email to leslie[at]colorplay[dot]org, or if you're on Facebook, please contact Razzle Mantis or Lucy LaFae as early as you're able to have your project included on the submission roster. Please explain your ideas in full: intent for the piece, scope of the project, the dollar amount you need in order to create the piece, and whether you intend to burn this art.

Displaying Your Art at the Fundraiser:

Please arrive on time and prepared! The longer your art is on display, the more people will be able to peruse it and decide. Be prepared to present your art! Talk with people about your ideas, and get them excited.

You will have your own table space to display models, drawings, schematics, etc.

Mosaic updates and new web-poll

What is Mosaic? If you haven't been following my last couple messages, it is a community driven burner event that will take place in Ohio in the fall. The energy behind this comes from the very supportive burner community that made Scorched Nuts happen just a few weeks ago who strongly expressed their desire not to limit their magical experience to once a year. We're officially calling this event The Mosaic Experiment (or Mosaic for short.) Lots of discussion and polling has been done online and offline since this initial spark, so we have results to report, and more questions to ask!

WHEN? A date has been set thanks to our web poll results: October 3rd - 6th, 2013!

WHERE? Everyone wanted this to take place at Reclaim, the same land near Athens, OH where Scorched Nuts has been held annually for years. We are pleased to announce the owner of Reclaim loved the idea and is permitting us to use his land twice a year! It's a beautiful & magical please, and we're very excited to go back!

WHAT NOW? Team building and event planning is now in full force, pricing our insurance costs and portable toilets as well, and soon we will have ticket pricing determined and ticket sales will go live!

All that said, we have a question for the community which we're discussing heavily but we're also curious to poll everyone to see where we stand on the issue.

Should Mosaic be a family friendly all ages event (like Burning Man, Alchemy, and Lakes of Fire) or should it be restricted to 18 and over as Scorched Nuts has been http://strawpoll.me/149952

Mind you, if it is all ages, no tolerance policies will be in place to remove any parent or guardian who ignores/neglects their children at the event, and theme camps who want to be adults-only are more than welcome to post signs to that effect (as is done at all the family friendly burns I have attended, Burning Man included.) Children can bring a wonderful energy to a burn but also pose risks that wouldn't otherwise be present. Radical inclusion is one of our core principles so this issue is near and dear to my heart. Please help us out and vote with yours: http://strawpoll.me/149952

More updates to follow as we have them!

DATE ANNOUNCEMENT

The dates for the Mosaic Experiment planning to take place at Reclaim this fall are Oct. 3-6 (Thurs-Sun). The poll was neck-and-neck for a while with the Oct date with a one vote advantage... and Oct dates got strong support from the volunteer side as well. Thanks to all you lovelies for voting and giving the community your opinion. We know that this date disappoints some of you but we did what we thought was best! So there you have it folks, put it on your calendar and check back soon for info on ticket sales, leadership roles, and the Mosaic website! Next steps are putting together team leads, and of course securing porto rentals and insurance (that will determine how many pesos you'll have to fork over for these shenanigans!) Stay tuned and keep showing your support!!!

Are you ready to burn again?

!!!ATTENTION ALL BURNERS, BEAUTIES, CRAFTERS, BUILDERS, SPINNERS, SCIENTISTS, WANDERERS, WARLOCKS AND UNICORNS!!!

Well, this has been by far the most exciting burn season in our Ohio region to date! Everyone is riding high off of the most successful Scorched Nuts event we ever had (with record attendance yet again), and all we kept hearing during the exodus and online forums were people calling it "the best burn I ever attended!" WOO HOO!

Also, we saw the biggest representation from non-Ohio regions we've seen yet, WOO HOO! (this is why we're reaching out to so many of you!)

The burn energy hasn't even begun to slow down for most of us. Problem is, we all miss each other so much already that we want to do it again!

Sure, there will be decompressions and precompressions, but when do we get to do another proper burn???? Talks have already begun for planning another Ohio regional event in the fall (currently being referred to as Mosaic.) We love that land Scorched Nuts uses in Rutland, OH not only because it's beautiful & magical, but it's very accessible from Cleveland, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Lexington, Louisville, and Indianapolis (between 3 - 4.5 hours away from all locations and even closer to Columbus and Dayton, and about an hour further from Detroit and Ann Arbor!)

We're just not really sure WHEN? We have a few dates in mind but we'd like you all to help us decide.

So Please take a quick moment to take the poll for what date this burn should become reality!

Here is the poll: http://strawpoll.me/76193

ALSO, if you are willing to be a team lead to help make this endeavor happen, please get back at me and we'll find a good place for you with many more details! It's only a commitment for a few months to help make a really awesome thing happen that so many of us cherish and love.

Be well everyone! :)
