Lifting The Lid On Our Porto Game

We aren’t full of sh*t, and your portos won’t be either. We’re currently putting together an info dump regarding the ticketing process which goes live Sunday, but while we’re still digesting, here’s an update on this year’s porto situation.

We are stepping up our porto and sanitation game for Mosaic 2021 with extra hand wash stations and handicap accessibility increasing this year. We’re also ramping up the rate at which the portos are cleaned and getting more aggressive with those sanitizer refills so you have a moderately fresher burn experience!

More resources, easier positioning for access and just like that this one aspect of your burn experience just got a bit better.

Effigy and Temple Submissions Open

Do you know how much we appreciate artists in our burn community? You should because each and every one of you are or can be an artist at Mosaic Experiment! Want to build something insanely outrageous? Beautiful? Interactive? Weird, odd, and charming? We want to hear your concepts for our 2021 Effigy and Temple!

This year we have allotted $1000 each, 1k for effigy and 1k for temple, to support your projects. What is the most important thing to know? We are on a TIGHT TIMELINE so we are opening the gates for proposals today and closing them on July 23rd anticipating announcing our selections by July 28th. Due to the shortened timeline, we will not be reaching out to artists to ask clarifying questions about their art. We will gladly answer any questions you have BEFORE the deadline, but please ensure your plans are complete upon submission. Incomplete submissions will be grounds for disqualification.

Before you start your preparations, visit mosaicexperiment.com/artgrants paying particular attention to the resources on that page (especially the prohibited burn materials). We invite you to dig deep, find that idea you know is there and bring it to life!

It all starts by filling out your application here.

It's Time To Come Home!

We are thrilled to announce it’s time to come home!

Mosaic Experiment will be IN PERSON for September 16th-19th, 2021. We are so excited to join you as we return to the razor grass of Reclaim to burn together once again. We’ve missed you and appreciate the understanding you’ve shown as we worked out how to build and keep our burn safe for all who can attend.

With this update, we’re unleashing the big announcements rapid fire below. We will return to each point (and others not mentioned here) in separate updates to explain and make sure you have everything you need as we build this burn together over the next few weeks.

For the 2021 Mosaic Experiment:
- Our theme will be “Off And On Again”
- Attendees will be required to provide proof of COVID vaccination
- The minimum age to attend this year’s burn will be 12 years or older
- Tickets will go on sale later this week and are once again set at $90
- Tickets will be capped at 450 attendees
- We are adding a temple this year
- Art grants will be awarded for effigy / temple

We know you have a lot of questions, especially as they relate to timelines, cut off dates, the ticketing process, theme camp registration, volunteer initiatives and so much more. We will begin rolling out a series of updates starting tomorrow addressing every aspect of this year’s Experiment so there is much more to come.

That said, the countdown to gate reopening has officially begun!

2021 Community Event Survey

With Burning Man's recent news release that they'll be waiting until 2022 before possibly gathering in Black Rock City again, we've been asked the same question by quite a few of you.

Will Mosaic Experiment be in person this year, and if so, what types of precautions will we be taking to prevent the spread of COVID-19?

Well, the answer to that is simple.

We don't yet know.

Regardless of whether we'll be burning at Reclaim or gathering once again around our "looking glasses" in the digital world via Discord, Mosaic Experiment 2021 WILL be happening.

However, there are a lot of factors in play surrounding public health and our Civic Responsibility to the community that we are following before we make a decision. The number of people fully vaccinated in the US is currently around 32%, and while this is encouraging, we still have a ways to go before we reach an acceptable level for herd immunity.

What we would like to know from you, our community, is what we can do to make you feel safer if we are able to burn in person this fall. We've created a short survey to let us know where you are all at with this:

https://form.jotform.com/210967013107044

We'll be tallying up the results over the next couple weeks or so to help us determine what sort of precautions need to be present if we return Home this year and as soon as we know for sure, you'll know.

In the meantime, if you haven't already done so, join our Discord server here: https://discord.gg/ZfuEGHQ, and stay tuned for some off-season Mosaic Experiment digital events!

A Date Change For Mosaic Experiment

If everyone would please get out their schedules, we need to make a change! Don't worry, we brought enough whiteout for everyone.

A few weeks back we were excited to share the 2021 dates for Mosaic Experiment. Whether we gather in person or virtually, we wanted you to have those dates. Sadly, due to an unforeseen conflict which arouse, our dates are going to change. We will return to announce those new dates by the end of this month (or sooner if Burning Man makes a final decision regarding this year).

Please know we appreciate your understanding. The world remains in flux but we will keeping you informed with each step forward we take.
