Need-Based Ticket Program RETURNS for 2023!

Last year the new Need-Based Ticket program was able to facilitate meeting 38 requests totaling nearly $3000 in funding!  All requests that responded to offer emails were able to be met.  This was achieved through 15 half-price tickets the MOrg allocated to the program, and the rest was met through community donations.  We want to extend a HUGE thank you to everyone who helped make this happen.

After a wildly successful inaugural year, Mosaic Experiment’s NBT Program is now open for 2023!  The program allows for community members in need to request the level of assistance that would make a ticket accessible for them based on their unique circumstances.   While one participant may be able to afford a ticket at $20 off the total cost, another participant may not be able to attend unless their ticket is fully funded.  The NBT program also provides flexibility in responding to fluctuating levels of community need. Combining MOrg allocated half-price tickets with community donations creates the opportunity to meet more NBT requests than the organization could afford to fund purely on its own.

The program will be open to requests through Friday August 18th and will accept donations through Friday August 25th.

If you would like to make a request for ticket funding assistance, please first read the updated NBT Program Information on our website.  There you will find a link to the 2023 request form.

If you would like to donate towards the program, you can send your donation directly to NBT@mosaicexperiment.com on PayPal.  If you would like to donate an entire already purchased ticket or would like to provide additional information regarding your intended donation, please fill out the NBT Request & Donations Form, which you can find on the NBT Program page.

2023 Vaccination Policy

Having recently announced our upcoming ticket sales for Mosaic Experiment 2023: Celestial Chaos, you may be asking, “What is the Vaccination Policy for 2023?”

Update 6/14/23

In preparation for Mosaic Experiment 2023, we would like to announce the following suggestions to help prevent the spread of COVID at the 2023 event. We recognize that the Government has declared an end to the COVID crisis (4/4/23), however, as a community, we want to provide a safe event for all. Therefore, we will be suggesting the following:

  • If you have access to a test, please test before your arrival at Mosaic Experiment.

  • If you are ill, please practice civic responsibility and do not attend the event.

  • If your child is ill, they should not attend the event.

If you develop symptoms at the event, it will be requested that you take a test (we recommend bringing a test with you to the event). If you test positive, it is expected that you will leave the event.

We will be requiring all attendees to be fully vaccinated as defined by the CDC:

  • 2 weeks (14 days) since a person received one dose of an accepted single-dose-series COVID-19 vaccine (e.g., Janssen/J&J); OR

  • 2 weeks (14 days) since a person’s second dose in a 2-dose series of an accepted COVID-19 vaccine; OR

  • 2 weeks (14 days) since a person received the full series of an accepted COVID-19 vaccine (not placebo) in a clinical trial; OR

  • 2 weeks (14 days) since the person received 2 doses of any “mix-and-match” combination of accepted COVID-19 vaccines listed in Table 2 administered at least 17 days apart.

If you are not yet fully vaccinated, please use this guide below to help you plan:

  • Pfizer: 1st dose by August 16th, 2nd dose by September 13th

  • Moderna: 1st dose by August 9th, 2nd dose by September 13th

  • Johnson & Johnson: single dose by September 13th.

If you purchase a ticket and have not received your final dose by September 13th, 2023, you will not be admitted to the event and your ticket will not be refunded.

What about boosters? Though we are not currently requiring booster shots in order to attend, we are highly recommending the newer bivalent booster, as it has been shown to significantly decrease risk of serious illness or hospitalization from the Delta and Omicron variants. If in doubt, get boosted!

Exemptions to being vaccinated: we will be making exceptions for children ages 0-5 due to the lack of an approved vaccine dose for that age bracket and their lower risk profile, as well as for those who qualify due to a valid medical reason as determined by the CDC: i.e., those who have had a severe allergic reaction after a first vaccine dose or have a known allergy to a component of the vaccine. If you fall into one of these exemptions, you MUST email us at gate@mosaicexperiment.com by September 14, 2023 to provide verification of this exemption.

Our wonderful Gate team will be checking your physical vaccine card or a screenshot of your digital vaccine record or a full photo of the card with all information clearly visible along with your ID when you arrive. If you are vaccinated but have misplaced your card, please contact your medical provider or the service location where you received your vaccine in order to obtain a replacement card or record as you will need this in order to attend! Please direct all questions you may have to gate@mosaicexperiment.com.

We appreciate you doing your part by practicing the principle of Civic Responsibility and getting vaccinated to help ensure we have as safe a burn as reasonably possible when it comes to taking precautions against the spread of COVID-19 and its variants. If needs arise, we will be providing updates to this policy as we get closer to this year’s Mosaic Experiment. See you on the Razorgrass!

Mosaic Experiment 2023 Theme Voting Is Now Open!

Hey there folks, have we got good news for you! We've narrowed down the many theme suggestions you've sent in to us to five finalists and now it's time for you, the community, to cast your vote for Mosaic Experiment 2023's theme!

The choices for this year's theme and their descriptions are:

1. Mosaic Experiment: Things Atoms Do

“These are some of the things that hydrogen atoms do, given fifteen billion years of cosmic evolution.” - Carl Sagan

The quote above is one of many quotes by Sagan that embodies a cosmic perspective. The cosmic perspective rises above the human sense of self to show that humanity is only one facet of the universe. It humbles the ego and gives validation to creativity and love.

2. Mosaic Experiment: Suspend Reality

Mosaic's "Suspend Reality" theme encourages participants to step outside of their comfort zones and explore new perspectives, whether through art, music, performance, or other forms of expression.

This theme encourages participants to let go of their preconceptions and to fully immerse themselves in the moment, to be present and open to the endless possibilities of the Mosaic Experiment, where participants can discover new dimensions of themselves and the world around them.

3. Mosaic Experiment: Dancing With Shadows

Everyone has a shadow. Some may try to run from their shadow, denying its existence only to be forever chased by it. Some may be consumed entirely by their shadow, dimming their inner flame and falling into the void that now surrounds them.

But there is another path. The path that allows you to meet your shadow with compassion and forgiveness. The path of integration and acceptance.

This is an invitation to dance with your shadows along this seldom tread path, for without the darkness, there can be no light.

4. Mosaic Experiment: Synaptic Connection

Synaptic connection is a fundamental mechanism of the central nervous system. It is how communication in the brain occurs to manifest in subjective thoughts as well as objective action. Signaling or electrical impulses transmit across the collective of individual neuronal units via synaptic connections. These connections may be mediated by electrical signals or even chemical messengers- across long distances to achieve their goals and to bring life to humans they reside in. We participants at Mosaic are these brain cells, interacting and connecting via synaptic connection to bring about art, growth, and transformation. We make up the grand organism together via our intricate communications and contributions.

Observe images of neurons, pyramidal cells, synapses, and purkinje cells via a Google search.

You will see that the nervous system contains beautiful opportunity for art- an eye, a brain, or neural trees as statues, pyrotechnics, effigy, or temple. Notice the parallels between neuronal branches and those of trees and lightning arbors. The depth of the system is ornate and inspiring for a community of diverse individuals that come together to comprise a functioning system of awe and beauty.

5. Mosaic Experiment: Celestial Chaos

Description - We have awoken in the night to find that the celestial skies have been reborn into new beautiful chaos. Nothing is familiar and those who find their way by the stars have awoke to find new worlds and paths to explore... Strange new patterns emerge amongst this metamorphosis. Forget Mars in retrograde - all celestial bodies have found new orbits to dance in as the stars burn brighter and brighter in their intensity, falling & rising/dying and being reborn amongst the music and the moments. New constellations are created, the gods & goddesses & deities of old are transformed amongst this chaotic celestial rebirth.

What will this Celestial Chaos bring?

Voting is open until Wednesday, April 5th at 8:00 pm EST

An Update on Theme Submissions

Thank you to everyone that submitted their suggestion for Mosaic Experiment's 2023 theme.

We had some of the best theme ideas in the history of the event, making narrowing them down particularly difficult. In the end, we will be choosing the top five themes, selected by the MOrg through ranked choice voting, for all of you in the community to vote on.

Stay tuned folks, all the things Mosaic are about to start happening.

Out of the Mud Returns for Season Two

We're back with our first full length podcast video since we last saw you at Mosaic Experiment 2022: Off And On Again and we're cooking up something a little different this year...

We'd like our second season of the show to focus more on stories from the burn, either ours or others you've been to, as a way to better connect with the community, and in turn give you the opportunity to create your own new connections.

We'll still be giving you all the dirty details on what you need to know about the burn as we get closer to the event, but that will mostly be shared in our shorter Minute in the Mud videos.

In this episode, we talk a bit about Burning Man Proper and its art, recall our favorite moments from last year's Mosaic, and extend an invitation to all of you to join us in making this year's experiment (and podcast), one that we'll never forget.

Submissions for Mosaic 2023’s Theme Are Now Open!

Over the last two years, you might have noticed that our theme selection process may have been a bit different than what you’re used to, and you’re right. In 2021, time constraints pushed us to pick a theme midsummer, and with the in person event having to cancel due to health concerns that year, we carried it into 2022.

This year we’re putting you, the community, back in charge of picking our theme and submissions are open now!

Enter your submission for Mosaic Experiment 2023 here

Act fast to enter your submission though, because we’re only accepting them until March 15th, 2023. After that, we’ll be moving on to Round 2 in order to vote on this year’s theme for your Mosaic Experiment

Finally... The 2022 Video Collage Has Been Completed.

Not long after we all returned to Defaultia following our event in 2022, we asked you in the community to submit some of your photos and videos from OFF AND ON AGAIN to be used in a video collage.

It's been quite awhile but you know how rough decomp can be, especially with winter soon following. We're happy to finally be able to present to you a collage of our first in-person event in 3 years, told from your perspectives.

We can't wait for all that Mosaic 2023 will bring.
